Kindergarten

In addition to focusing on critical mathematical and language skills established by the Michigan Core Standards, our goal for kindergartners is to instill lifelong positive feelings toward school and learning.

Mathematics

Kindergartens learn foundational mathematical skills such as to count objects, compare sets of numerals and are introduced to addition and subtraction equations. We also introduce geometric ideas, shape, orientation, spatial relations and the vocabulary to describe basic two and three dimensional shapes.

Language Arts

The focus of language arts instruction includes development of reading readiness, starting with basic phonetics, learning the sounds of letters alone and in combinations, learning to ask and answer key details in a text and retell familiar stories, identify characters, setting and events in a story. Ask and answer questions about unknown words. Recognize common types of texts, etc.
