English Language Learners

Students learning English as a second language in schools are faced with all of the content challenges of a native English speaker, in addition to learning a new language. The high linguistic and academic expectations placed on our students learning the English language compels us to construct developmentally appropriate English language development standards, benchmarks, and indicators.

About the ELL Program

Believing that every learner is capable and different, we are committed to providing a rich educational experience for all of our ELL students through differentiated instructional delivery, bilingual program, staff development and research based practices. In our program, our ELLs receive a broad spectrum of customized/personalized services based on their individual needs. Our instructional placement varies upon the student’s age/grade, proficiency level and content support requirement. Push-ins, pull-outs and one-one one interventions are provided in collaboration with other grade-level teachers, support staffs and families. Our syllabus is intensive and content related and a blend of Product Oriented and Process Oriented. Our instructional materials cover and integrate all four skills of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.

Assessment of Students

Students take the state level assessment WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0. It is a secure large-scale English language proficiency assessment administered to Kindergarten through 12th grade students who have been identified as English language learners (ELLs). The assessment helps students, families and teachers understand students’ level in English. The assessment provides adequate information for teachers to plan their instructions.

Supplemental Support

The ELL department is to play an active role in acculturation of lexapro buy online no prescription students who are new to the country.
