In Middle School grades 6th – 8th the curriculum moves quickly, so students without foundational skills in math, language arts and science can fall behind. At Multicultural Academy, our small class sizes, MTSS Services with one-on-one and small group instruction for struggling students ensure that
every student gets the attention and support they need to be successful.Language Arts
In Middle School we focus on advanced reading comprehension, literary analysis, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation, and writing skills. Students learn to identify genre, voice, point of view, and literary techniques. Students are challenged to think critically, recognize opinion vs. fact, and defend their own positions.
Mathematics
Mathematics at this level includes an introduction to algebra, geometry and spatial reasoning, measurement, data analysis, and probability.
Social Studies
Social Studies in Middle School include a deeper exploration of the U.S. government structure, how power is distributed across the different branches of the federal government and the states.
Science
Middle School Science is organized into sections on Living science or biology, Earth/Space Science and the Physical science basics of Physics and Chemistry. Living Science covers information on plant and animal classifications and genetics, cell structure, single-cell, and multi-cell life. In Earth/Space Science, students are introduced to concepts relating to the Earth’s atmosphere, weather and climate, and solar system. In Physical Science sections, we introduce concepts relating to atoms and elements, motion and waves, energy, and states of matter.
